I was going to post this yesterday, but by the time I got on the internet all motivation had drained away. Sorry! Anyway....
If you are curious about the book (which you should be!), then head over to Siobhan's totally awesome, newly revamped website and check it out! I highly recommend it! Or just head over to your local independent bookstore and as them about A Little Friendly Advice by Siobhan Vivian. If they don't have it? Have them order you a copy, and tell them to get a couple for the store, too. If you must get it online, then I humbly ask you do buy it from Powell's. Powell's is probably the most amazing bookstore in the US and is in Portland, Oregon. It's totally independent, and has the best (and most huge) selection of used and new books. I love going there, because they buy your books from you and give you yummy store credit. And, even online, though you don't get the experience, it's still miles better than soul-sucking Amazon.
What was I talking about, again? Oh yeah, ALFA. Another reason to read it? On Siobh's site there are Polaroids of some of the places in the book. How awesome is that? Do eeeet!
OK...moving on! Let's see...ah, yes...
I may have mentioned this before, but the boys were on the front page of Wednesday's New York Times! Both the New York and National editions (no idea if there's usually a difference). There was a little picture of Bill, and then, on the Arts section? Totally monopolized the front page, with a continuation (and Tom picture) inside.
I'm going to have to send StrongBad in to Apple to get my ethernet port and disc drive fixed. It will be days without my laptop, I'm not at all sure how I'm going to survive! Seriously, the idea of being without my laptop for a week + is really freaking me out. At least the band doesn't have anything scheduled until the Europatour starts on 3 March. Which is not that far off. ::chews nails:: I am going to have to back the whole HD up on my external tomorrow (which means clearing more space off, dang), just in case the Apple guys completely murder my baby. ::glares menacingly at Apple::
Ha! Speaking of Apple, on this week's Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me! they mentioned a study that found that Apple computer users are more egotistical, arrogant, etc, than their Windows using fellow humans. (I can't find a link to the actual study). And even more so? Apple users who vote for Barack Obama. My response? "Well, we are better." Heh heh heh.
Also on Public Radio, I was listening to Studio 360 and, not only did they have on the ever-lovely Ellen Page (I need to see Juno, like, yesterday), but they also had a rather talented young lady by the name of Thao Nyguen, who plays pretty brilliant indie rock. You should head over to her website and check her out, it is definitely worth listening to! You can pick up her band's CD, We Brave Bee Stings And All here for a mere $12. There is a helicopter on it!
Ooh, I saw 27 Dresses today! (With my mum, both Hanna and Natalie were supposed to go with, but couldn't manage it.) It was really good, very fun, funny and sweet. But then I am a sucker for fancy dresses and Katherine Heigl so I would have loved it regardless. If you are looking for a good movie to see, and that is playing, it would be a good choice, I reckon!
Sorry I am being spazzy and skipping around a lot, but I told you I have a lot of random stuff to say!
Tomorrow I am going to an Italian conversation group/class thing. I'm worried that it will be all awkward and weird and that I'll be bored out of my flipping mind, but it probably won't be too bad. And then, after, it's Oscar time! Are you going to an Oscar party? (or the real thing?) I'm going to the one at the theater, got my dress, shoes, bag, and sunglasses all picked out already. I will definitely post a picture, if one turns out. Though, crap, it just occurred to me that it might be raining. Damn. Oh well!
Are you still reading? Wow, you got courage. A few last things before I wrap this up—
I've been working on my passages this week! I've got about three pages of really rough first draft done on my script (which I might post up here, looking for input), and I've got a few pages done (or kinda maybe done. ish) on my zine! In fact, on the hearth in front of our fireplace are spread out about a zillion words cut out from magazines. It looks kind of rad, but the slightest breath of wind will send the whole thing into a tizzy. Which no one wants.
Speaking of zine, though! Our neighbour across the street let me some zines to look at, and one of them has a card on front that was shot (literally, with a gun) by Hunter S. Thompson, which is pretty much very cool. That reminds me, at my old high school we had one of Hunter's Sheriff posters, signed by the good doctor himself. That high school had its high points.
I'm kind of obsessed with my tattoo...though I'm getting tired of having to put on the lotion crap, and having to take showers in stages. My hair doesn't dry right if I wash it upside down, it looks silly. Oh well, soon it will be all better and awesome! Yay!
Gosh, I've probably put you to sleep. Heck, I've nearly put myself to sleep!
Good night,
Lotte
P.S. You know what is a really good movie? The Departed. Holy crap I love that movie!
OK, I'm really going now. Bye bye!
Nein, there are no corpses shipping in here, just in time for Christmas. Instead, my zoopear bruder bought me The Departed soundtrack for my birthday! My socks are rocking über hard. I'm Shipping Up to Boston by the Dropkick Murphys is quite possibly my new favourite song. Don't tell Bill!
D-sauce also got me a Lite-Brite pen, which is amazing.
In other news, it is Christmas in under 3 hours, and I hate college application essays.
I'm going to go write the damn thing now. On paper. Because I'm the kind of person who still buys CDs and memorizes the digits of pi for fun.
Merry Christmas Eve, bb's! Sorry I am lame when it comes to responding.
xoxo

Grrrr...putrid Firefox. I had my post all half-typed and had to force quit. ::sigh:: I am really too tired to re-type it at the moment, though I'd love to. Instead, I'll just give you the basic outline of things that made my day amazing:
*Seeing SuperBad (finally!)
*Finishing Blankets (Newest Addition to the Best Books Ever list)
*Getting a Big Box From Fred Flare (and the things that were in that box:
*Roller Skates! (Yes, I am still wearing them, thankyouverymuch)
*Super Duper Mix CD! (Keith is a genius DJ!)
*The Kung Fu Girls CD (I seriously love this and have listened to it all the way through three times this evening!)
Tomorrow I shall do my darndest to get this post back together with all the fun deets and links and whatnot, because I know you are just dying to be able to see that.
First things first, though:
Sleep,
Civics quiz, and
Trig Test (woohoo!).
See you tomorrow!!
Love always,
Charlie
Hmmm...Yes, this post was originally intended to be in ze morning...and I don't really feel like backdating it, so it will be internetized nearly 14 hours after it was begun! And gosh DARN I don't know why I am so bright eyed and bushy-tailed at 7 in the morning...especially because I hadn't had coffee...odd!
Anyway, moving on to more important matters: I got some pretty genius mail yesterday!
It's pretty awesome and positively coated with cyrillic (see the front and back), which is genius. The only problems are [a] because it's sealed and in original RUSSIAN packaging I'm reluctant to open it, and [b] now I have to get the German (and Japanese!) versions. ::sigh:: Oh, the travesty.
As if getting mon CD (finally! I seriously ordered it a good...oh, whenever 10 September was) wasn't enough of a cool thing to happen, I also got my copy of Blankets, which the lovely Siobhan Vivian advised me to read.
You know what is nifty? Looking through my Voxed books and seeing who else has Voxified them. Most of them are not V-oxed by anyone else, though, because they are aimed at an age group that, I daresay, is underrepresented in the bloggage world.
Hmmm...if anyone has any information about the super scandal in the life of Nathaniel Hawthorne, could you please share? I'm searching and searching and coming up empty. Found it. Ignore the creepy man and scroll to the second paragraph. It will change your life. Or not.
Love always,
Charlie
It's really happening. I know I keep saying that...I know that you must be thinking "ja, eNOUGH already, we realise that you're excited, blah blah blah" but you don't understand. Probably. And if you do...then you know exactly what kind of strangled squealing noises issued forth from my mouth after I opened the padded envelope and held them in my hands. And why my heartbeat hasn't quite slowed down. And why I still haven't opened them because I can't bear to. Wow.
I'm not going to keep both of them, one is going to go to my beloved Hanna (with whom I had a total K-twins drool session with today- love ya, kid!). But one will still be mine. And I think I may have another one in the mail to me, so that I can have one open to play and gaze at, and another to just...have.
I'm also going to submit the above picture (unfortunately I couldn't get a good one with all four boys...stupid poster is uncooperative...GUSTI I LOVE YOU) to the Official eTeam in the hopes of winning this tshirt:
I'm starting to get lightheaded from not breathing.
Gazing at them lovingly,
Charlotte
P.S. I'm kind of sad that when they're all sold out I won't be able to use this banner anymore, as I am exceedingly proud of how it turned out.
What's the best thing you ever bought off of Ebay or Craigslist?
I can't think of the best thing...So I'll just tell you all the things I've bought off of eBay, starting most recent and working backwards.
* Schrei - Tokio Hotel
* Schrei [so laut du kannst] - Tokio Hotel
* Zimmer 483 - Tokio Hotel
* Signed Photo of Orlando Bloom
* iBook power cord
* Deconstruction - Meredith Brooks
I think that covers it...not exactly fascinating... I'm not a huge eBayer...Sure I go on there a lot and find things I wan't but I don't purchase them that much :D
Rawk!
Oh, and speaking of Orlando Bloom...my mom found my PotC locket to-day! It had fallen down inside the linen closet...I'm quite thrilled to have it back, as I haven't gone two weeks without wearing it since I bought it...in March.
Edding Drivers,
Charlotte
Meet the biggest band to come out of Germany in 20 years, Tokio Hotel. With over 6 million albums sold in Europe, four number one singles, two number one albums and countless certified gold and platinum records, the guys from Tokio Hotel are set to conquer North America.
With Scream, their US debut, ready for release, listeners will get a chance to hear how Tokio Hotel's melodic brand of rock easily navigates between headbanging guitars and power-packed anthems to mid-tempo pop tracks, and softer, more introspective ballads. From rock anthem "Scream" to rock ballad "Monsoon", Scream has something for everyone.
To
tide fans over until Scream arrives in the U.S., Tokio Hotel will
release a 2 song EP of anthemic rock tracks "Scream" and "Ready Set
Go." The $0.99 EP hits Hot Topic shelves exclusively September 11th.
YES, you read that correctly! Tokio Hotel is now available for purchase at Hot Topic stores in the U.S.! And for only $0.99, that's right, one dollar! Please please please please go to your local Hot Topic ((link to store finder)) and pick up a copy or two for yourself, plus one for each of your friends! Heck, they're only a dollar, why not buy a stack to pass out on street corners? I'm not one to advocate Hot Topic, but if this sells well here we could definitely be on our way to getting TH to the US!
There are phone numbers on the store locator page, so you can call up to see if they have it before going down there. My local one didn't even know what I was talking about (at 7pm on the 11th), but I'll keep trying until I get a positive answer. Of course, my "local" Hot Topic is 2 hours away and I don't know the next time I'll be going there, but I'll do my best!!
This is our chance to really show how much we want them to come here, so please get out and buy it! Come on, it's only a dollar. Get them for early Christmas gifts! Birthdays! Anniversaries! Bar/bat mitzvahs! Spread the word, as well. The more people we can get buying these EPs and listening to Tokio Hotel, the greater the interest, the larger the "WE WANT THEM HERE!" message is to TH's management. Let's do this thing!
Hoping hoping hoping,
Charlotte

Yeah, OK, that worked a lot better in theory than in practice. I guess no Charlotte's Law of Sch for me! Heh heh, sorry, physics joke.
Moving on...
If you figured out by the title that this is a rant about school, then you're quite right. Feel free to skip over this and move on to the more fun and exciting things ahead! Or read it and weep with me. Not at me, with me.
<rant>
I am so sick and tired of having no where to go with my schedule. I'm not going to give up any of my classes, because I love them all and I'm learning heaps. However...not only is not having 4 years of English not UC OK (not that I'm applying to any), but, apparently, it means that I wouldn't be able to graduate from high school. Um, hold that thought. Not graduate? WTEff?
Turns out, though the normal school and state standards only require 3 years, 30 credits, of English for graduation, my dearest Charter School requires 4 years, 40 credits. Greeeeeaaat. Guess who is 0.5, yes 0.5 credits short of 40? Me, that's who. Oh, and that's if (big if) I can get a waiver to make Creative Writing into English credit, instead of elective. A waiver? Why the heck would Creative Writing not be English already? I don't freaking know.
I may have to do some kind of independent study English class, though my mom really doesn't want me to because I failed so hard at doing it before. I can really really really see her point but...gah. I guess I don't have anything to say. I think I could do it, but I definitely have to face the fact that me and independent study have a decidedly rocky past. Oh, heck, rocky? Who am I kidding. I couldn't manage an independent study if my freaking life depended on it. Which, if you think about it, it kind of does.
It's starting to feel like taking a year to go to Italy was a big flippin' mistake (and, believe me, it felt like that a lot of the time when I was there!), because now I'm screwed on all sides. Though, I know that if I hadn't gone, not only would I have missed out on the gazillion amazing things that I experienced (and might not know about Tokio Hotel...holy crap!), but also I would probably still be in the same horrible position that I was in for my first 2 years of high school, not making any progress, not doing my homework, and being miserable and shooting myself in the foot.
So I'm grateful that now I am motivated, doing my homework (2 weeks in a row! It's insanely amazing!), learning, and loving my classes. That's what makes it so frustrating. I'm here, I'm giving meine alle...but still treading water. ::sigh:: I hope this all gets resolved soon...I'm going to my old school on the 17th to get everything figured out for last year on my transcript.
</rant>
That was fun :D
Oh. My. God. Charlotte wants. Pleeeease? Dang, I am going on such a TH buying binge. Once I start, I can't stop! Heck, I also want to get one of these Schrei CDs and the Ready, Set, Go single. Golly! Oh well, it's not like I ever spend money on anything. Und ich habe a job!
OK, I gotta go write an essay about a character in fiction that has had an influence on my life. Man, I really wish Bill could count as a character in fiction!
...Kidding!
....ish....
Not really finding it funny,
Charlotte
My Schrei [so laut du kannst] and Zimmer 483 CDs came today!! And you know what that means, don't you? Ja, Tokio Hotel is now wafting wonderfully though my house, for the first time ever in German! (that is not played from my computer). Ich liebe meinen CDs. They are completely amazing and beautiful, especially when Bill thanks "Tomi" in the liner notes of Zimmer. There are few things cuter than Bill calling his big bro Tomi. Tomi! My Tomi, heh heh heh.
So anyway, I was listening to Schrei [sldk], and I'm a little confused. It was released after Bill's voice changed, but the only songs that really sound like his new voice are Rette Mich (which is marked 'Video Version') and Schwarz. Did they really release an entire CD with only 2 songs different? Weird. I guess I really have to get Schrei now, and investigate further! (And maybe I should work more on my German...speaking the language would make my life so much easier!)
Ooh, Wo Sind Eure Hande just came on! I don't have that song, and have actually never heard it before. Which is a travesty. Especially because the English version, Raise Your Hands, is coming out on the UK Scream.
Yaaaar I love Tokio Hotel, holy hannah!
In other TH newsish, Tom's destroyed guitar from the Monsoon video is on eBay Italia, being auctioned to benefit a project that is helping bring clean water to the Masai territory of Kenya. ((That is really awkwardly phrased but I can't think of the proper words, sorry!)) I want to buy it but, unfortunately, it is only listed as being shippable to Italy! Maybe I could get it sent to my host mom and then have her send it to me?
...Just in case you were wondering, the fact that it is currently at $911.60 is no object.
My Schrei CD came with the videos to Durch den Monsun, Rette Mich, and Schrei; I already had all three but the Schrei is a different, more awesome version. I started to watch Rette Mich but then had to turn it off because Bill is too. Effin'. Perfect.
Hey, guess what! Gusti's birthday's day after tomorrow! How lovely...19 years old. I reckon I ought to start getting a post together...poor Gustav, he's so mightily ignored by everyone! It's all about the K's (or, for weird people, Georg) all the time. Now, I love my twins, obviously, but Gustav is just Gustav. How could you not love him?? If the K's are my super-duper wonder-twins, then Gustav is like my best friend older brother. There's something about him that just makes
Grinning like a fool and singing along to Thema Nr. 1,
